Tony Awards 2017: The Acting Awards

Take two for my predictions for the winners of the 2017 Tony Awards, this time for the acting nominees:

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play

Who I Want to Win: Corey Hawkins (Six Degrees of Separation)

Who Will Win: Jefferson Mays (Oslo)

I love Corey Hawkins, especially from his performance as Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton. However, I think Jefferson Mays has this award. He is

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play

Who I Want to Win: Laura Linney (The Little Foxes)

Who Will Win: Laura Linney (The Little Foxes)

This show has received a lot of buzz and so has Laura Linney. I have no doubts that she will take home Best Actress.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical

Who I Want to Win: Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen)

Who Will Win: Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen)

Another shoe-in. The emotional integrity and vocal commitment he has given to this role deserves recognition. One of the standout performances of the season!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical

Who I Want to Win: Denee Benton (Natasha, Pierre)

Who Will Win: Bette Midler (Hello, Dolly!)

I personally love Denee Benton, but she will have her year. It's obvious that Bette Midler will parade in and take the crown. Not an exciting choice, but it's Bette!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play

Who I Want to Win: Danny Devito (The Price)

Who Will Win: Danny Devito (The Price)

Danny Devito brought his comedic timing to this Arthur Miller classic, there's no doubt he will win.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play

Who I Want to Win: Michelle Wilson (Sweat)

Who Will Win: Condola Rashad (A Doll's House, Part 2)

Both Condola and Michelle have given excellent performances this season. However, even the accolades given to Sweat and praise for it's ensemble cast, I think Condola Rashad will take the drive for A Doll's House.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical

Who I Want to Win: Brandon Uranowitz (Falsettos)

Who Will Win: Gavin Creel (Hello, Dolly!)

Brandon Uranowitz is a brilliant contemporary musical theatre actor, as is the rest of the Falsettos' cast. Yet, Gavin Creel is equally brilliant and might follow the Dolly train to a win.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical

Who I Want to Win: Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen)

Who Will Win: Jenn Colella (Come From Away)

This category is tricky for me. You have Rachel, who's emotional roller coaster act as Evan's mom thrills audiences, while Jenn really stepped into the spotlight for Come From Away this year. It's going to be close, but I think Jenn Colella might take the win with such praise from critics. We will see!

Running Total:

Hello, Dolly! - 3

Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 - 2

Dear Evan Hansen - 2

The Price - 2

Come From Away - 2

The Little Foxes - 2

Sweat - 1

Indecent - 1

Oslo - 1

A Doll's House, Part 2 - 1
